Superheroine Lady Liberty (AKA Tanya Danielle) arrives at the abandoned hideout of the Master of Darkness. She knows that this is where the insidious villain poisoned her sister, the Black Widow, with Spectranite and turned her into a statue. The Master of Darkness now keeps the Black Widow on permanent display at the macabre museum where he houses all of his superheroine conquests. Today Lady Liberty is on a daring quest to obtain a sample of Spectranite. A leading scientist has equipped her with a geiger counter to help her ferret out the dangerous substance. After entering the empty hideout Lady Liberty discovers trace amounts of it still lurking in the atmosphere. She knows that she is risking her very existence by coming into such close contact with Spectranite, but she is determined to succeed in her mission. The only way she can save the Black Widow is to enable a prominent research laboratory to develop an antidote for the effects of Spectranite. For this they will need a sample of the elusive element. As Lady Liberty investigates the room she starts to feel her temperature rise. Soon she is sweating profusely and her clothing starts to chafe her skin, almost as if the fabric is burning her flesh. Desperately she begins to rip the garments off her body, but she quickly discovers that she she is losing all of her mobility. Her shimmering white boots are rooted to the floor because she lacks the ability to control her legs. Soon the paralysis spreads to all areas of her body and Lady Liberty knows with sickening certainty that she is about to meet the same fate as her sister. Long, long minutes elapse. The blonde superheroine cannot move. Her mind races. Who will find her? Is she condemned to spend eternity frozen inside this abandoned house? How could such a tiny amount of Spectranite be so potent? She has ample time to ponder these and every other issue in the universe. Horror blankets her mind like a deep covering of snow. Hopelessness and despair soon follow. And then the most unexpected thing of all happens. She feels one of her toes twitch inside her boot! Is she imagining it? The minutes tick by. She feels pulsing sensations begin to surge throughout her lower body. Gradually, very gradually, the numb superheroine is regaining control of her body. She analyzes the process as it unfolds. Could it mean what she thinks it does? Is it possible that Spectranite only remains potent for short durations of time??
